The Baby Expo Durban™, held at the Durban ICC from the 29th to 31st August 2008, was a resounding success, bringing the best parenting, pregnancy and baby brands to Durbanites for the second year.
Despite the continuing rising cost of living, 25 060 visitors were only too happy to visit the expo and take advantage of the workshops to learn, enjoy Barney™ with their children, and indulge in the show specials on offer.
Projeni Pather, Exhibition Director of The Baby Expo says, “Once again our Durban visitors defied all myths of the lack of spending power in Durban. This is a very aspirational market, and our Durban visitors were much more prepared for the return of our show this year. They were ready to spend and eagerly devoured information from our lineup of experts at the show.” As the organisers of The Baby Expo, Exposure Marketing is determined to continue to grow this market in Durban. This can already be seen in the 21% increase in visitors from 2007.
Exhibitors had fantastic personal success at this year's expo, with great sales and exposure to a specifically targeted market making the trip to the coast worthwhile for those exhibitors based in Johannesburg especially. In addition to the successful reception of exhibitor's products, exhibitors also had the opportunity to show off their creative side with the building and decoration of their stands, which were judged for the Stand Awards.
The winner of the Stand Award in the floor space category was Pigeon, with a special mention going to Bayer Consumer.
The Schell Scheme Stand Award went to Johnson & Johnson, with a special mention going to Monkey Magic.
The Product Innovation Awards held at each of The Baby Expo's [Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town], is a great opportunity for exhibitors to show consumers any new and exciting products they are bringing onto the market. The standard of new, innovative products entered into these awards at The Baby Expo Durban is a testament to the quality of exhibitor at the expo, and their dedication to bringing the best products to visitors.
The winner for the Product Innovation Award was the IQ Bottle and Baby Food Warmer from Philips Avent, with Zam-buk Multi-Purpose Body Oil from Bayer Consumer running up in second.
A major draw card for visitors at The Baby Expo Durban this year was the Pampers and Your Pregnancy ‘All Expenses Paid Pregnancy Competition' worth R150 000. Kasandree Subajan was the lucky winner whose life was changed forever when she was handed a package with the winning ticket wrapped inside.
Visitors were thrilled to see for the first time Barney™ accompanied by his friends BJ and Baby Bop performing their Beach Show on the Baby City stage. Screams from the children were proof of their joy and excitement!
Following the success of The Baby Expo Durban, The Baby Expo Cape Town will be held from 7 - 9 November 2008 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
