National Geographic Traveler comes to SA

8 Ink Media announced earlier this week that it is launching the award-winning international travel magazine, National Geographic Traveler, in October 2008. 8 Ink Media currently publishers National Geographic Kids and the National Geographic Society's custom title EarthPulse.

According to 8 Ink Media MD, Andrew Sneddon, the title is a natural move for the company, which has become increasingly involved with the National Geographic Society and its vision to inspire people to care about the planet.

Said Sneddon, “The magazine targets high-income travellers, who are passionate about experiencing the world. Editorially, it celebrates journeys that are about place, culture, authenticity and great photography. Emphasis is placed on sustainable travel practices that encourage travellers to care about the planet.

“With a balanced readership of men and women, National Geographic Traveler is an international brand that reaches more readers than any other travel title in the world. From an advertising perspective, it allows advertisers and marketers to reach South Africa's elusive high income, educated reader and is the perfect environment for travel and luxury clients.”

The first issue, on sale end October, will comprise an initial print run of 20 000 copies. Retailing at R39.95, it will be bagged with a National Geographic DVD.

National Geographic Traveler recently added Cape Town as one of 50 “Places of a Lifetime” on its influential website.
