Significant ABC growth for Action Publications
Issued by: Action Publications

The quarterly Audit Bureau of Circulation figures released today reflect a significant growth in the circulation of small specialist motoring magazine house Action Publications’ titles Cars in Action, Bakkie & Truck Action and Classic Car Africa.

Action’s successes come against the backdrop of a complete shake-up in the South African motoring magazine world over the past six months, with the recent acquisition of several of Action’s rival titles by SA’s media giants. Still, the privately owned and run Action has enjoyed its best ever ABC period and the company has moved into a strong second overall in magazines sold in the past period as the company approaches its tenth anniversary in May.

Action’s substantial year-on-year gains can be put down to both Bakkie & Truck Action magazine’s 48% year-on-year sales growth and that Classic Car Africa magazine reported its first ABC for this period at a handy 5 696 copies sold. Action’s combined ABC has now climbed to 31091 – up 9321 copies or 42% over the same period year-on-year.

“We took the view with all the change going on around us in the car magazine world, that we’d aim for consistency in our flagship title Cars in Action and rather concentrate on pushing hard on all aspects of Bakkie & Truck Action, while seeing to it that the previously un-audited Classic Car Africa passed its first ABC test with flying colours,” Action Publisher Michele Lupini explained.

“That we achieved beyond all expectation – Cars in Action maintained its overall circulation, gaining strongly in single copy off-the-shelf sales, Bakkie & Truck Action grew significantly and Classic Car Africa came in at a handy figure for its first ABC this period.

“We have always considered our combined ABC as a vital marker as our three titles cover three vital yet totally diverse niches and their combined content and circulation equates to that of a more general more general motoring title’s single circulation.”

“It’s taken a while, but our rivals seem to have all cottoned onto this fact,” Lupini pointed out, “because now the big guys are grouping together all the various titles they have gobbled up and are flaunting their new and different niches as a combined total...”

“So looking at today’s ABC figures, I have to admit, we’re proud of Action Publications’ progress – especially in the light of recent developments in our world,” Lupini concluded. “We’re a tiny, family-run publishing house competing against the giants of SA publishing – these results do certainly make us very proud...”
