Possible screening test for pre-eclampsia

A blood test for pre-eclampsia may be available within the next five years.
Researchers say that the test could detect the condition as early as the first trimester. The key is a protein in the blood that is linked with the condition, according to Dr Victoria Bills, the senior researcher.

The full name of the substance is VEGF165b, and it might also give clues as to the cause of pre-eclampsia.
