Medi-Clinic Southern Africa and MedicAlert are introducing a new product - the MED-e-KEY, a memory stick that can be carried on a MedicAlert member's key ring, in a purse or wallet. The MED-e-KEY holds medical information that may be vital in an emergency.
Everyone is familiar with the personalised MedicAlert disc, on the back of which is engraved the member's primary condition, unique ID number and a telephone number giving instant access to additional medical information in the secure Medic-Alert database. This repository provides critical medical information to healthcare providers and first responders 24 hours a day, anywhere in the world.
This critical emergency medical information can now also be loaded on the MED-e-KEY, ready for use at any Medi-Clinic emergency centre. Only critical emergency medical information is unprotected and available in a medical emergency.
Additional, password protected, information about allergies, medication, medical examination results, etc. can also be saved and updated on the key. With the member's consent, this information can then be downloaded, printed and filed by medical practitioners.
If you join MedicAlert today, your joining fee of R150 will include the first year's subscription, a personalised disc, access to the 24-hr customer care line and a MED-e-KEY. Thereafter an annual fee of R49 will apply.
