Issued by: The Heart and Stroke Foundation SA

The Heart and Stroke Foundation SA received a welcome donation of ten computers from Virgin Life Care to aid the Foundation's efforts in reducing the incidence of heart disease in South Africa.

"This donation marks the beginning of a close synergy between ourselves and The Heart and Stroke Foundation," says Travis Noakes, Brand Manager at Virgin Life Care. "Our organisations share the same passion for making better health easy for South Africans and we look forward to assisting them with their health promotion and fundraising activities."

Virgin Life Care is a member of the world-renowned Virgin Group. Virgin runs South Africa's leading health club network, Virgin Active (SA) and 630,000 of its members benefit from Virgin Life Care's services. Virgin Life Care puts the power back in the hands of individuals, by providing easy-to-use programmes that support and keep them motivated to eat healthily and be active.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation SA was identified as the preferred charity that Virgin Life Care will focus its Virgin Unite-related charitable activities on for 2008, and the donation of these computers is part of the groups responsible business practice.

Commenting on the donation, Michelle Kearney, Communications Director, The Heart and Stroke Foundation SA said, "We are extremely grateful for this very generous donation, as being an NGO doesn't afford us the opportunity to purchase such expensive equipment on a regular basis. The joining of forces between ourselves and Virgin Life Care will create greater avenues in promoting healthy lifestyles and spreading the word of heart health."

Virgin Life Care has also committed to supporting the Foundation's other programmes, such as the Children's Programme (a community empowerment project teaching healthy habits to children in the poorer communities. The modules include nutrition, exercise, the effects of smoking, basic hygiene and HIV/Aids awareness) and Sow-a-Seed project, as well as assisting in promoting fundraising campaigns to Virgin Life Care's members.
