In a world where everything has gone through the roof, Amazing Spaces brings prices down
Issued by: Amazing Spaces

In largely volatile and uncertain times, Amazing Spaces reports stability, consistency and, most notably, prices lower than five years ago.

Their hard-earned efforts to effectively market monitor and best represent South Africa as a stable and desirable destination for production crews far and wide have paid off. A recent analysis done to measure the like-on-like costs for a shoot over the past five years reveal some interesting facts. In summary:

  • For a full day stills shoot, locations in the top price bracket have increased by only 13% in five years, well below the inflation rate. Locations in all the other categories (which constitute for 69% of all their locations) have actually come down.
  • For a full day film shoot, average locations fees have increased by a total of only 9% in five years, also well below the annual inflation rate. Over and above this, in support of the local industry, Amazing Spaces has managed to keep its full day fee for local film crews at an average of R8000-00 per day, 26% below that of the international equivalent.

So, whether you are a part of the local industry paying in Rands or internationals converting from the Pound or the Euro, the price to shoot in South Africa using an Amazing Space on average is lower than it was five years ago. This is definitely something for the South African Film Industry to shout about.

“Currency fluctuations, globalisation and shifting trends make the international production market an extremely fickle one,” says Julia Finnis-Bedford, Managing Director of Amazing Spaces. “As a destination, one year you can be hot and then as quickly... not. Add to this exploitation and those in it to make a quick buck and South Africa can lose all its credibility on an international platform. For this reason, our approach is that of consistency, sustainability and positive development for the good of the industry.”

And, in an industry that in 2007 brought in over R3.5 billion to the South African economy, it seems that Amazing Spaces is clearly on the right track.
