USB-ED presents the only programme in Health Technology Assessment in SA
Issued by: USB-ED

USB Executive Development Ltd (USB-ED) will again be presenting its Programme in Health Technology Assessment in association with Qualsa, a company that specialises in health-risk management.

It is the only course of this nature currently presented in South Africa.

It is aimed at professionals in the private and public sectors of the health care industry – including the pharmaceutical industry – and it will benefit any person who has to assess the value of new drugs, tests, procedures or equipment used in health care.

Local and international faculty such as Prof Stephen Chapman from Keele University in the UK will provide the latest information and perspectives on health technology assessment.

This programme will equip participants with the skills to assess health technology and to make decisions regarding the deployment or funding of new technologies. This will include an overview of the principles and practices of health technology assessment and evidence-based medicine to emphasise the challenges of evidence-based policy-making in a rapidly changing health environment.

Other learning outcomes will include the analysis of research results and new technologies in a scientific, systematic and defendable way, the implementation of new technology, and understanding costs and efficiency-related issues around the deployment of new technology.

The programme will consist of two study schools spread over six months. The first study school will start on 12 May and will be presented at the University of Stellenbosch Business School's campus in Bellville.
