Patients treated to online resource with the launch of Well@Pfizer
Issued by: Magna Carta

In response to growing demand for health information and disease education by consumers, pharmaceutical manufacturer Pfizer South Africa has announced the launch of an online patient information site that seeks to create awareness on diseases and other health matters.

Well@Pfizer aims to motivate consumers to take necessary steps to lead healthier lives and to empower consumers to become active roleplayers in healthcare decision making. The new site will allow consumers to be able to access information on disease management, medicines, managed health care and medical schemes, fitness and nutrition, patient rights as well as free health programmes.

“At Pfizer we are excited to launch this fantastic site which we believe will be of great benefit as a source of health and disease information for consumers and patients”, says Timna Kleinberg-Russell, Consumer & Professional Affairs Manager : Pfizer SA

Well@Pfizer builds on an already existing paper-based cholesterol and heart health programme which provides patients with the latest medical information on the treatment, management tips, as well as general healthy lifestyle options. Due to its success, as well as increased demand for health information, Well@Pfizer has been expanded to now include other disease areas and health matters.

Well@Pfizer will utilize the existing www.pfizer.co.za website platform for quick and convenient access.

“The new site is another innovation by Pfizer in its quest to empower people by increasing their understanding and further motivating consumers to lead longer, healthier and happier lives”, Kleinberg-Russell said.

Pfizer's goal goes beyond discovering and developing of innovative medicines. As part of our philosophy of “Working together for a Healthier World”, Pfizer is also committed to helping share health information and enter into partnerships with relevant stakeholders on public health programmes.

Says Kleinberg-Russell; “There is definitely a need for consumers to be able to access information easily. This is consistent with both the Patients Rights Charter and many shared beliefs from a wide range of patient organisations and countries that advocate for a patient centered-approach to Healthcare. Helping people to become more aware is a start to that process”.

“We believe that an empowered health consumer is a consumer who fully understands about their health and their rights. They are then in a position to demand better care and can play an active role in shaping healthcare decision-making and policy-making”, she added.
