Issued by: HWB Communications

Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) has won bids for two international medical congresses.

The prestigious 6th World Congress of Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery which will be held in Cape Town in 2013. The bid was won against stiff competition from Turkey and will bring 5 000 delegates to the Mother City to focus world attention on the plight of children with heart disease in Africa.

In another first, CTICC will be hosting the World Congress on Down Syndrome in 2012 following a bid initiated with Down Syndrome South Africa. The event will encourage research that focuses on Down syndrome within Africa and give parents with affected children the opportunity to attend a world congress in South Africa for the first time.

Global title ahead
CTICC has also been nominated for the title Convention Centre of the Year 2008, Global, by the overseas financial publication, European CEO, contending against Geneva and Frankfurt. The nomination is based on innovation and originality, project management ability, competitiveness, market leadership, proof of development and progress and positive media coverage.

CTICC managing director Dirk Elzinga said the recognition would have a significant impact on decisions made by international conference planners. “Awards like this do immeasurable good in building Cape Town's standing in the international community,” he said. “It is yet another reflection of the international standards of service we provide here that has positioned Cape Town as Africa's most important congress destination.”
