Cross Colours persuasively demonstrated client Nando's commitment to the arts by turning the restaurant group's entry for the 11th Business Day/Business and Arts South Africa Awards into a work of art itself.
The annual BASA Awards give recognition to companies which have made innovative, effective use of arts sponsorship, demonstrating how creativity can mesh with business thinking to offer mutual benefit.
Nando's entered its Nando's Worldwide Art Initiative, which supports local artists whose work beautifies Nando's stationery, offices and restaurants across the globe. To turn the BASA entry into an artwork in itself, Cross Colours called on the talents of one of the artists of the Nando's Worldwide Art Initiative.
“We used an etching plate made by artist Philemon Hlungwani, to create the cover art for the entry booklet,” explains Joey Pastoll, creative director. “On top of being beautiful, the plate also demonstrated the process of printmaking, making the entry booklet not only an original piece of art, but also an education in the practicalities of making art.”
The Cross Colours team behind the artistic entry hoped their creative innovation would keep Nando's top of mind amongst the judges, who included Vega's Gordon Cook and Andrew Human, MD of the Loerie Awards.
Nando's was subsequently awarded the Chairman's Premier Award for sustained and extraordinary commitment to the arts in South Africa, at the BASA awards ceremony held recently.
